Giveaway winners, a new review, and Manicure Monday

Good evening on this marvelous Monday!

The winners of the giveaway are Hexen, Arella, and Valarie P. Expect an email from me soon, and thanks everyone for participating. If you didn’t win a copy, I hope you’re still intrigued enough to check out A Cut Above the Rest.

BIG NEWS! It’s Review Monday over at Alessandra Ebulu’s blog, so hop over and see what she says about From the Inside Out. (Hint: great things.)

I’ll lead out with a picture of yesterday’s manicure, which was for St. Patrick’s Day.

Wishing everyone a great week! I’m going to take a wee break from posting for the next day or two. I’ve got another deadline this month and writing up all those entries for the blog hop on top of finishing another story wiped me out. šŸ™‚

  1. Congrats to the winners!
Talya, I was anxious to see your new nail design XD your nails seem longer this week (that didn’t sound stalkerish at all!). Are they naturally this long? I can’t make mine to grow at all. They break as soon as they grow a little longer. I can only resort to gel nails to make my hands look pretty, But I hate gel nails cause I can’t really do any housework with them. Any tips?
Gorgeous manicure btw. That dark green looks awesome.

    1. Thank you Shayla! This is the point where I can grow them out, it takes a couple of months, but sadly this is also the point where they start to split or break at the tips. So after the manicure you see here, I had to trim them down to about half that length.

A couple of things to do when you’re growing your nails out is to take a vitamin with folic acid, which I do every day, and use a nail strengthener as a base such as OPI Nail Envy or Butter London Horse Power.

My nails do chip like crazy because I can’t help but do housework and cook, so even though I try to be careful, I end up doing my nails twice a week because of the chipping. Also, they’re prone to random breaks because I’ll randomly catch or slam a nail while doing some chore or other. Then I have to clip them all the way down, augh.

Thanks, I loved that manicure! I love to do fun but subtle holiday manicures. šŸ™‚ Have a great week!

      1. Aww! I hoped you were luckier than me. I didn’t know about the treatment with folic acid. I do use straightener from Seventeen with Vitamin E, but It it’s only effective up to a certain point. The nails still chip after a week or so. I’ll try the folic acid solution and see if it works.
Lately I’ve bought some really nice stamps for nails. The designs are really cute. I definitely recommend them (though they take a lot of practice). the best part is that you can use them with regular nail polish as well, so it’s quite a cheap solution to having pretty nails šŸ™‚

  2. I’m in the same boat as Shayla. My nails are way too short, and they’re so weak, so whenever they attempt to grow a little bit longer, that’s it for them. #Sadface. So, do you have any suggestions for long, strong nails, pretty please?

Oh, and do we have any ideas yet for the central theme for LT3’s hop. I’m sad to admit it, but I haven’t started working on my write-ups yet.

P.S: I really did enjoy reading From the Inside Out :D.

    1. I keep growing them out to this point, but they always end up breaking somehow or other! It is definitely sad. But, I take a folic acid supplement as part of one of my daily vitamins (it’s actually Gentle Iron), and you can use a nail strengthener such as OPI Nail Envy or Butter London Horse Power as a base coat, or by itself for 10 days to a month, and both of those things really help.

The central theme is “the way to your heart,” so basically each of us will compose a post about what that is for us (or, perhaps, a character/characters). So my entry will probably have something to do with cooking. ;D

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it. ā¤

      1. It was a pleasure dear :D.

Eww. I hate taking drugs. I try my damnest to make sure that I don’t have to take them. Will probably look for foods with folic acid which will be in my daily meals. I think that’s the one way I can certainly stick to a daily intake. I purchased Perfectil Plus as my multivitamin supplement. Can you believe that I only used it for a week. Then I stopped. I’m a sad case. Lol.

Will probably have my own post centered around music. I’ve always had a special spot for it, and I think that’s the way I will go. Will probably ask for some recipes to try at home though. Love the food you come up with, and the pictures are really amazing.

P.S: If you do decide to send me recipes, they have to be really simple and easy to prepare (I’m not the world’s greatest chef #hangshead).
